FAQs

Q?

Do you charge extra for installing in rocky area?

A.

Unfortunately, we have to charge for rocky areas that are hard to dig. For example, in Stone Oak area of San Antonio we always run into rock. In some extreme cases we have to use a jackhammer. In most cases, we charge around $30 - $50 per "hole". Most of our structures take only 2 - 4 holes.

Q?

Do you charge a mileage fee to install my carport, patio cover or awning outside of San Antonio area?

A.

If you are located inside Loop 1604 in San Antonio, I do not charge a mileage fee. However, if you are outside of 1064, I charge $.80 per mile to cover my travel fees.  Example, mileage fees for an Austin installation will be $120 for a one day job. Bulverde is around $48. Keep in mind this is for a one day job. If you have a large job that requires multiple days, this cost will increase. I can get most of my patio covers, carports and awnings done in 1 day. Custom or higher end jobs generally take longer.

NOTE: Larger jobs further than 1.5 hours away from zip code 78223,  we will have to figure out lodging and expenses for overnight stays.

BTW, I sometimes get asked why I am at .80 cents a mile. In most cases I have to haul a trailer with materials and it drastically reduces my fuel economy.

Q?

Can you paint the structure to match my house / building?

A.

Yes I can paint it for you! However, to keep our prices low, we give you the option to paint the structure yourself or have me do it. The materials we use are primered and ready for paint. If you want me to paint the structure, I offer two different options:

1.      $1.25 cents a square foot. The building / home owner will  take a color sample or choose a contrasting color of your choice to a nearby Sherwin Williams paint center and purchase the specified amount of paint. The paint MUST be on-site before I begin the job. Some of the materials are painted BEFORE I install. If you do not have the paint ready for me this requires more time on my part.

2.      $2.00 a square foot, I will take a color sample that you provide head over the Sherwin Williams and purchase the paint. I will wait in line and have them color match to your provided example.  I will leave the extra paint for touch ups.

NOTE: This is for basic structures only. Taller and unusual structures will be quoted on a per job basis.

NOTE: Keep in mind you need to paint the structure within 2 weeks. The primer is not intended for long term exposure to elements.

Q?

What are the accepted payment options?

A.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover, and money orders, checks or cash paid to installers at the time of installation.

Please keep in mind our advertised prices are for CASH. If you pay with visa or Mastercard we will provide you with that amount at time of quote.

Q?

Can I cancel my order?

A.

Yes, however, you forfeit one-half of your deposit, or 250.00, whichever amount is less.

NOTE: If your project requires custom steel rolling or non standard parts, we might not be able to refund you for those parts. This is a rare occurrence. We will be sure to let you know if any parts are special order. An example of special order parts can be seen here:

https://carportpatiocovers.com/portfolio-view/patio-cover-curved-arched-awning-castle-hills/

This project required special rolled steel support beams. Once this steel is heated and bent into shape, we can no longer return it to our suppliers.

Q?

What warranty do you offer?

A.

We cover all workmanship for 1 year from date of completion.

Q?

What do I need to do to make my site ready for you to install?

A.

Please make sure area is free from all debris, trees, shrubs, roots, vehicles, or anything that will obstruct the area, plus an additional 10 feet on each side. Failure to do so will result in a 150.00 fee for us to remove.

Paint:

If you are going to provide us the paint for reduced painting costs, the paint MUST be on site before we start the job.

Q?

Can I change my order once it’s placed?

A.

Yes, you can change your order. However, changing your order will result in a change order fee starting at $150. Once we order your materials for the job we are subject to material restock fees from our suppliers. Keep in mind, once they create our order for your project they will pull the materials required and they are bundled for quick pickup. If we add or change the order, we get "dinged" by our suppliers. In order to get our jobs done quickly, we order your material within 1 - 2 hours of deposit.  Also, if we planned for a 2 man job and your job is now going to require 4, the job description and quote will need to be updated prior to commencing.

Q?

Why are your prices not listed online?

A.

We have a base price menu in our pricing page. However, each and every one of our structures is custom made to fit your needs, our pricing page gives you an idea of the ballpark figures you will be looking at.
Please check here to see the prices.

Q?

What is the tallest structure I can have?

A.

As tall as you need it! However once we get above 10 foot in height on most structures, the price for material increases.  The longer stock is heavier and costs more per foot. Once we know the exact height we can quote the job accordingly.

Q?

What materials are used to make my structures?

A.

26 gauge R-Panels are used for all roofing; 14 gauge C-Purlin; 14 gauge open face receiver channel; 14 or 11 gauge 3-5 inch square tubing, depending on the structure; neoprene tech screws and lapscrews and washers

Q?

How long will it take for my structure to go up?

A.

It all depends on the type of structure. For a normal carport or awning, for example, an 8’x20’, we can be done in as little as a day. However, sometimes we come across issues that we didn’t see before we started, such as wood rot on a home where it’s being attached, and that can lengthen the job.

Q?

What sizes can I choose from?

A.

Because we custom build each and every one of our structures, the choice is yours. We can make cuts to contour even the strangest shaped home or existing structure.

Q?

Can I get different color panels?

A.

Yes, there are a variety of colors to choose from; however, please note that if you choose something other than the basic galvalum, there is an extra charge

Q?

Will my structure be water tight?

A.

Absolutely. We use either flashing or a 25 year urethane caulk, depending on the structure and where it’s located.

Q?

Do I need to worry about high wind?

A.

Unlike the kits that you can buy, our structures are attached to your pre-existing concrete, welded to a steel plate and concreted in, or buried 12-36 inches deep and concreted in, depending on the location. This holds carports and awnings much more securely than bolt together kits.

Q?

If I want to paint it myself, what kind of paint should I use?

A.

A High quality oil based paint, since you will be painting steel. I like to use Sherwin Williams.

Q?

How long will my carport last?

A.

We use 20 year R-panels for the roof, and the posts are solid steel. There will be no rotting, termites or weakening of the posts. There are structures similar to ours that were built 100 years ago are still standing!

Q?

Should I choose a stand-alone structure, or should I attach it my house or building?

A.

We’ll give you our opinion, but the choice is yours!
