This 21’x22′ structure was built over an existing concrete slab, so the posts were welded to steel plates and bolted down instead of starting a new foundation.

Attached carport northwest San Antonio project: this 20’x18′ custom all steel carport is attached to the home and gives enough cover for two average sized vehicles. It was painted at the request of the customer, and three posts hold up the carport.

A carport attached to the house lets you step from your vehicle toward the door with a roof overhead, which is handy when a summer storm rolls in or the sun is beating down on the driveway. This one measures 20’x18′ and is built entirely of steel. The customer asked for paint, so the finished structure has a clean, coordinated look instead of bare metal. The photos above show the site before work began and the completed carport from several angles.

This two part gabled carport Wimberley, Texas project, which also includes a lean to awning, was finished, as you can see, in the pouring rain! The first part of this project was a 32’x22′ gabled carport. Attached to the carport is a 10’x10′ lean to with 2 enclosed walls. The structure was not painted at this time.

About this gabled carport Wimberley project

A gabled roof peaks in the middle and slopes down on both sides, so rain and runoff are shed in two directions and the center of the carport has extra headroom. That shape suits a wide structure like this 32’x22′ carport, and the attached 10’x10′ lean to with two enclosed walls adds a bit of sheltered space beside the parked vehicles. The steel was left unpainted for this job. If you would like color, our FAQ explains whether we can paint the structure to match your house.

The second part of the Wimberley project was a simple lean to awning attached to an existing shed. The awning measures 12’x12′. With the posts, we drilled 18″ diagonally into the rock ground at four points with rebar crossing at the point of the posts which are then welded. The rebar is crossed to ensure that it will not come out. An 8 inch sono tube was dropped over the posts to form 2 foot piers.

Building on rocky Hill Country ground

Many properties around Wimberley and the Texas Hill Country sit on shallow rock, which makes setting posts harder than it is in soft soil. That is why the footing method matters, as described above for the awning. If your site is rocky, read our answer on whether we charge extra for installing in a rocky area.

Built measuring 20’x15′, this single car carport in New Braunfels, Texas is a perfect addition to a home. In addition, the owner asked for a small cover to put over the walk way. It measures 6’x10′ and blends in perfectly with the entire home. The posts and frame were custom colored to match the home at the request of the customer.
